Custom-printed reflective stickers
Reflective stickers – durable marking for outdoor use.
Reflective stickers are a solution designed for marking objects, vehicles, machinery, and infrastructure elements that need to remain clearly visible after dark. A characteristic property of theirs is the ability to reflect light back towards its source. As a result, when illuminated by car headlights or another light source, the sticker becomes much more visible than a standard sticker made from ordinary self-adhesive film.
At SUPRAPRINT, we produce custom-printed reflective stickers designed for outdoor use. Depending on requirements, we use two types of professional ORAFOL ORALITE® films: ORALITE® 5400 Commercial Grade and ORALITE® 5810 High Intensity Grade in colour 010 White.
Both materials provide a reflective effect and are designed for outdoor use, but they differ in terms of, among other things, reflectivity class, construction, and declared durability.
How does reflective film work?
The reflective film is designed to reflect light back towards the source from which it originates. It utilizes a special retroreflective layer containing microscopic elements responsible for the characteristic reflective effect.
During the day, the outdoor sticker looks like classic signage with printed graphics. After dark, when illuminated by a spotlight, the surface of the film reflects the light and becomes noticeably brighter. It is precisely this effect that makes reflective stickers suitable for applications where the visibility of signage after dark is crucial.
However, it is worth noting one important feature of reflective films: their surface is not perfectly white. It has a distinctive, slightly grey or silvery-grey hue resulting from the construction of the reflective material. This directly affects the appearance of the print.

Why do the colours on the reflective sticker differ from the CMYK design?
One of the most important things to know before ordering a custom-printed reflective sticker is the limitation regarding colour reproduction.
In the case of standard white self-adhesive vinyl, printing takes place on a bright, white substrate. In practice, the whiteness of the substrate serves as a reference point for the other CMYK colours. The reflective film, on the other hand, has a slightly grey surface characteristic of this material.
This means that the printed colors will not look exactly the same as they do on the monitor or in a visualization prepared on a perfectly white background. This may be particularly noticeable with light, pastel, and highly saturated colours.
Light colours may appear more muted, less intense, or slightly shifted in tone. This also applies to large areas filled with colour. The greater the proportion of light elements in the design, the more the nature of the substrate may be visible in the final result.
Reflective film is therefore not the equivalent of standard white film printed in CMYK. Its primary function is to provide reflective properties, and the print should be regarded as an element applied to a specialized reflective substrate.
For this reason, reflective stickers are best suited for projects where the primary goal is to convey information, provide warnings, facilitate identification, or enhance visibility, rather than to achieve perfect colour reproduction matching a proof prepared on a white substrate.
ORALITE® 5400 – durable reflective film for outdoor applications.
ORALITE® 5400 Commercial Grade is a professional self-adhesive reflective film designed for outdoor applications. It is made of cast PVC and utilizes a retroreflective construction based on glass microbeads.
The material is intended for use in producing informational, warning, directional, and advertising signage, among other applications. The manufacturer classifies ORALITE® 5400 as a Class RA1 reflective material.
The film is characterized by resistance to weather conditions, corrosion, and solvents. The adhesive film is designed for permanent application on properly prepared surfaces.
The manufacturer specifies a material durability of up to 4 years, assuming the use of an optional laminate, vertical outdoor exposure, and typical Central European climatic conditions.
In the case of a printed sticker, the actual durability also depends on the printing technology, the type of ink, exposure conditions, and the application method. The four-year period declared by the manufacturer refers to material properties under specific conditions and does not constitute an automatic guarantee of the durability of every print.
ORALITE® 5810-010 – higher light reflectivity.
ORALITE® 5810 High Intensity Grade 010 White is a more advanced reflective film designed for applications where high light reflectivity is particularly important.
The material belongs to class RA2 and provides a higher level of retroreflectivity than class RA1 films. Thanks to this, it is used for applications such as professional signage, where high visibility after dark is of particular importance.
The 010 White version features a bright surface—yet one characteristic of reflective film—that is not the perfectly neutral white substrate found in standard printable films. In the case of colour printing, one must therefore also take into account the limitations of CMYK colour reproduction.
ORALITE® 5810 is characterized by high resistance to weather conditions, corrosion, and solvents. For unprinted material, the manufacturer specifies a durability of up to 10 years under defined conditions of vertical outdoor exposure.
However, in the case of a finished printed product, it should be noted that the durability of the entire sticker also depends on the printing technology used and the conditions of use.
Reflectivity or perfect colours? It’s worth knowing the compromise.
A printed reflective sticker combines two different functions. On the one hand, it is intended to serve as a carrier for graphics, text, or markings; on the other, it must retain the reflective properties of the specialized film.
It is precisely the structure responsible for the retroreflective effect that gives the material’s surface its characteristic, slightly gray hue. Therefore, one should not expect the same color reproduction as with printing on standard, perfectly white film.
This is particularly important for designs utilizing bright colours, delicate shades, pastels, or large areas of solid colour. Colours may appear less saturated and visually darker than in a design prepared for a white substrate.
For projects where visual identity and the precise reproduction of brand colours are paramount, it is worth taking this aspect into account as early as the graphic preparation stage.
At the same time, the characteristic properties of the film do not constitute a material defect. The greyish background is a result of its construction and reflective properties. When choosing a reflective sticker, we are opting primarily for increased visibility after dark, rather than the exact colour reproduction found on standard white film.
Reflective stickers with custom graphics.
The ability to apply custom prints means that reflective film can be used for a much wider range of applications than just standard markings.
The sticker can feature a company logo, identification number, company name, warning information, symbols, vehicle markings, or any custom graphic.
Self-adhesive films can be applied to cars, trailers, machinery, containers, equipment, fences, posts, gates, and other suitably prepared outdoor surfaces.
In the case of vehicles and machinery, the ability to combine the identification of a specific unit with improved visibility after dark can be particularly important.
Durability of reflective stickers.
The durability of the sticker depends on many factors. The key factors are primarily the type of film used, the method of surface preparation, the quality of application, exposure to UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, moisture, the cleaning method, and the intensity of use.
ORALITE® 5400 has a manufacturer-stated durability of up to 4 years, whereas ORALITE® 5810 has a durability of up to 10 years for unprinted material under specified exposure conditions.
However, these values should not be treated as a guaranteed period during which the print retains an identical appearance. For printed products, the print itself also affects durability. Intense sun exposure, frequent washing, abrasion, or use in particularly demanding environments can shorten the time the sticker retains its original appearance.
Proper surface preparation prior to application is also of great importance. The surface should be properly cleaned, degreased, and dry. Proper surface preparation has a direct impact on adhesive adhesion and the durability of the entire marking.
Where are reflective stickers useful?
Reflective stickers can be used wherever signage needs to be more visible after dark. They are suitable for, among other things, marking vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment, containers, infrastructure components, and other outdoor objects.
They can serve a warning, informational, identification, or advertising function. For businesses, they also allow for the use of proprietary graphics and corporate colour schemes, although one must bear in mind the limitations imposed by the characteristic hue of the reflective film.
If the sticker is intended for use as part of official road signage or other signage regulated by law, the requirements for the specific application should be checked before ordering. The mere fact that a material is reflective does not automatically mean it meets all the requirements for a specific type of signage.
ORALITE® 5400 or ORALITE® 5810-010?
Both materials are intended for outdoor use, but they offer different levels of reflectivity and durability.
ORALITE® 5400 is a versatile RA1-class reflective film suitable for standard markings, as well as informational, warning, and advertising decals intended for outdoor use.
ORALITE® 5810-010 belongs to the higher RA2 class and is a suitable choice when high light reflectivity and superior material performance are particularly important. The durability declared by the manufacturer is also significantly higher.
In both cases, however, it is important to keep in mind a characteristic property of reflective film: a colour print will not be reproduced exactly as it is on standard white self-adhesive film. The slightly grey base affects the final appearance of the colours and is a natural characteristic of this type of material.
Order custom-printed reflective stickers.
Custom-printed reflective stickers allow you to create personalized signage for outdoor use that is visible both during the day and after dark.
At SUPRAPRINT, we produce stickers using ORALITE® 5400 and ORALITE® 5810-010. You can provide your own graphic, logo, text, or design, and we will prepare it for printing on your chosen reflective film.
Before placing an order, it is worth noting that the nature of the reflective film affects colour reproduction. If the design incorporates specific corporate colours or light, pastel shades, one must take into account how they may appear when printed on the distinctive, slightly grey substrate.
If visibility after dark, durability, and resistance to external conditions are your top priorities, reflective film is the right choice. However, if highly accurate CMYK colour reproduction is crucial, it is worth consulting on the design and the expected result before placing an order.
